About Te Taumata Border Leicester

Est. 1958

.

Two-Tooth Ewes

Border Leicester sheep are a high fertility maternal breed with heavy fleeces of medium to coarse wool. They have the added advantage of being free from wool on the head and legs. The combination of fertility, fleece quality and weight and lack of wool on heads and legs make them desirable in crossbreeding programs.

Te Taumata Border Leicesters are bred for constitution and thickness and are an ideal maternal crossbreeding option. Romney/Border Leicester crossbred ewes make top mothers; they are highly productive, hardy sheep that are eagerly sought after and command high prices at saleyards around the country. Romney/Border Leicester crossbred lambs fatten quickly and achieve heavy carcass weights.

Research has proven that a two- or three-way crossbreeding program will provide more hybrid vigour/heterosis than a composite breeding program.
