About Te Taumata

Te Taumata is situated at Gladstone, in the Wairarapa region of the North Island of New Zealand, 16 km SE of Masterton and 1.5 hours drive north of Wellington.

The farm comprises 247 hectares (611 acres) of medium hill country that includes 40 hectares (100 acres) of river flats. The climate is summer-dry and winter-wet with an average rainfall of less than 750 mm (30 inches).

Trading as McWilliam Stud Stock, we run 115 Poll Hereford breeding cows, 500 Romney ewes, 150 Border Leicester ewes and all female replacements. All livestock are registered through the appropriate breed associations and are performance recorded. All livestock at Te Taumata are run at high stocking rates under strictly commercial dry-land farming conditions, with traditional supplements such as baleage and grass hay offered during feed shortages.

These conditions allow for selection of breeding stock with the constitution to have a high level of production in harsh environments and to excel in more favourable environments. As specialist ram and bull breeders, we focus on the production of sound functional sires with genetics for optimum performance and profitability. Producing genetically superior Romney and Border Leicester Rams and Poll Hereford Bulls is our business and commitment to you.
